Over 60 venues hosting art on Friday, May 14th from 6-9pm and Saturday, May 15th from noon - 5pm, up and down the Greenwood-Phinney neighborhood!

Assemble for a Cause: Sewing for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

February 17, 2010--Assemble Gallery and Studio invites friends and neighbors to gather for a cancer awareness program, Assemble for a Cause, every Monday night in March from 6pm-8pm. Participants will cut and iron fabric, sew from a simple pattern, and donate the cotton hats to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Knit hats are often donated in the winter season, but summertime sun requires cancer patients take extra precaution. Kate Burt, local artist and wife of a cancer survivor says, “Chemotherapy drugs make the skin photosensitive, and sun sensitivity after radiation treatments will be life long…Even non-cancer patients should protect their heads with breathable hats or scarves.”

Assemble will provide all materials, instruction and refreshments; donations at the door are welcome. Assemble encourages participants across the country to sew at home and mail hats to the shop (email info@assembleshop.com for patterns). A drop box will be available for fabric donations and completed hats until March 31st.

Assemble Gallery and Studio made its debut in the Phinney-Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle in November 2009, with a focus on traditional craft as modern and relevant art.

“ZOO¡ Creatures of Curiosity” an art installation by Karl Addison. Over the years, Karl Addison's work has taken on an imaginative side of the animal kingdom: creating creatures of strange breeds, oddities, and miss matching. will be an exhibit of strange, life-size animals in all of their natural detail and splendor. This collection of creatures has been researched and illustrated over the past three years. It is a peek into life's "what if." Artist present.

Aurora Art Mural Project | Meet the Artists on Mon. Jan 11th

Aurora Art Mural Project
Join your neighbors to meet the artists who have been hired to create 2 art murals on Aurora.

Aurora mural locations include empty storefront windows and/or sides of buildings. The first project site is 7615 Aurora Avenue N. The artists hired are from Seattle Mural Art, an affiliate of Bherd Studios located in Greenwood. John Osgood, Zachary Bohnenkamp & Kevin "Sensei23" Sullivan are known most recently for their work creating an art mural for the safety wall next to the Greenwood businesses destroyed by arson.

Join Sustainable Green Lake, Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors (GAIN) and Seattle Department of Transportation to meet the artists and discuss our visions for Aurora. The basic themes for the artwork will include sustainability, traffic safety and community. Come share your ideas and enthusiasm for a new Aurora!
