City Arts: Best of Art Walk Awards

Presented by Blue Moon Beer and Seattleartwalks.org

Photo from City Arts Magazine Art Walk Awards page.

City Arts is excited to announce the return of the Best Of Art Walk Awards in 2011! Building on the successes of 2010, there will be four awards given out in 2011 which will include a $1000 prize along with a follow-up feature on the winning artist in City Arts Magazine. City Arts will host a party celebrating the finalists where attendees will vote on the winner. The cash prize is provided by City Arts, 4Culture and Blue Moon beer.

In partnership with Seattle’s Art Walk Consortium, City Arts aims to engage all the businesses and galleries that participate in the multiple neighborhood walks throughout the city each month.

A call for entries will be extended on a quarterly basis requesting that participating businesses and galleries submit their choices for the best piece they’ve displayed in the preceding three months. From these submissions, City Arts will select six pieces as finalists. These pieces and information about the artists and businesses they showed at will be spotlighted on CityArtsOnline.com

All the organizations collaborating to produce the 2011 Best of Art Walk Awards share the mutual goal of supporting and highlighting the diverse array of art walks throughout the city and the artists, businesses, and communities that make them possible.

Every gallery or business owner is strongly encouraged to participate in the Best of Art Walk Awards nomination process. Our individual efforts will help us collectively raise awareness for the array of options arts fans have throughout the city. All pieces showcased by City Arts will also promote the gallery or business at which it was displayed.

Submitting is incredibly simple, if you are an art venue in Phinneywood, please contact: artup@greenwood-phinney.com to get the step by step instructions on submitting your best of photos for your venue each month.

Art on the Ridge: 8005 Greenwood Ave N
“Ecce Homo,” (Behold the Man), will be featured at Seattle’s Art on the Ridge Gallery during the month of March. Plus live music by Hejira. Artists present.

Assemble Gallery & Studio: 7406 Greenwood Ave N
“BOREAS” featuring Lisa Congdon. Inspired by places like Antarctica and Iceland, artist and illustrator, Lisa Congdon's newest body of work—titled Boreas, for the Greek god of the cold north wind and winter—explores the landscape and lore of some of the coldest and most barren places on earth. Congdon, known for her use of florescent pinks, rich greens and aqua blues, gently infuses this palette into her paintings of icebergs and snowscapes—just enough to make you wonder if you are looking at a scene from another world entirely. Congdon’s landscapes for Boreas—some of her largest works to date—are coupled with several smaller pieces that reflect her passion for cultural mythology and lore, and include her own depictions of the ancient coats of arms of some of the wintery countries that inspired this body of work. Artist present.

Jeremy Kronbach’s art is deeply informed by his world travels. From his childhood in West Africa to more recent exploration in Central America, Jeremy has captured the vivid colors from these places and translated them to canvas. His painting process is similar to the traveling process itself. As the layers reveal their nuance, some elements remain, their weight and significance undeniable; others are covered over by new information as the journey continues.
Incorporating pure abstraction, elements of cultural motif and the occasional representational object, his work reads as the chronicle of his travels abroad.
