"Bob" by Justin Kane Elder
Gainsbourg: 8550 Greenwood Ave N
Featuring the pop portraiture of Seattle artist, Justin Kane Elder. Elder simplifies images by deconstructing them into basic geometric shapes. His goal is to construct a complex design out of simple forms. Each piece focuses on individual colors and how those colors relate to the space they inhabit. Colors are piled together to create a network of corresponding objects. This talented artist is a graduate of Cornish and is a real up and comer on the urban art scene – we expect to see great new work coming out from Elder this year. Her work often deals with dichotomies and forces that seem at odds with each other. Her most recent body of work explores the complexities surrounding what it feels like to be an individual in a globalized society recovering from financial collapse, and how this is shaping the way we experience our world, ranging from our cities, to our internal emotions, to how we experience nature. "Bring Me Home" by Deborah Walker
Strut: 7511 Greenwood Ave N
Deborah Walker moved to Seattle in 1980 and began the struggle to find her own voice. The interest in psychology resurfaced but entered from a very different direction. The images came from inside. Through working with dreams, Jungian Analysis, Shamanic Soul Work and Astrology, a process of growing and healing unfolded. She continued to show throughout the northwest and has been included several times in the Pacific Northwest Annual at the Bellevue Art Museum, the Oregon, Washington Biennial at the Maryhill Museum of Art and other juried exhibitions. She has had solo shows in the Seattle area at the King County Arts Commission Gallery, the Kent Arts Commission Gallery, and Galley 110. Her most recent exhibition was at Patricia Cameron Gallery in Seattle, WA.
Walker explores deep psychological, mystical and environmental concerns in carefully composed mixed media paintings. In our environment where images hang like a disturbance in the air around us, she would like to bring the viewer to a place of provocative thought-full-ness; a reflective place where mystery and beauty lie in the quiet magic of the unknown. Artist present.
