Jeremy Kronbach’s art is deeply informed by his world travels. From his adolescence in West Africa to his more recent exploration of Central America, Jeremy has captured the vivid colors from these places and translated them to canvas. His painting process is similar to the traveling process itself. As the layers reveal their nuance, some elements remain, their weight and significance undeniable, and others are covered over by new information as the journey continues. Incorporating pure abstraction, elements of cultural motif and the occasional representational object, his work reads as the chronicle of his life abroad. Artist present.

I later switched to abstract work and have been focusing exclusively on abstract expressionism. Abstract expressionism is my way of expressing thoughts and feelings. My art brings abundant joy, relaxation and fulfillment to me because it offers me the chance to express the beauty of life. I'm in my element when I paint. I paint, therefore I am. When I paint, I think about people, emotions, travel, my intercultural experiences, and the beautiful world we live in. I believe that life is beautiful in that it is imperfect, and human beings are wonderful in that they are different. To me, the vibrant colors, bold concepts and imperfect shapes and lines found in my art celebrate the beauty, the difference, the mystery, the free spirit, the controversy, the passion, the non-conformity, the wonder. Children are a great inspiration to me as well, further contributing to the burst of positive energy I feel and portray in my art."

Gainsbourg: 8550 Greenwood Ave N
Thompson is a visual artist, writer and animator based in Seattle, WA. As an artist she focuses primarily on the human form and always tries to incorporate a strong sense of narrative to her work. She wants each image she creates to have a story book feel to it, that draws the viewer into a different world. She often uses animals and magical elements in her paintings and tries to explore the relationships that we have to nature and the sublime. She consideres herself a bit promiscuous as an artist and often ventures into film, animation and creative writing.

For this series of new work showing at Gainsbourg, she is focusing on mechanical and robotic imagery. She utilizes a beautiful pallete of vibrant colors which heightens the fantasy-esque realms that entices viewers to escape within.

You're Invited to Celebrate the Newest Mural on Aurora: Sat, Oct 16th at 10am

New Mural Supports Aurora Businesses and Relays a Safety Message

(SEATTLE) A new mural at 10217 Aurora Avenue N has come to life on the side of North Park Grocery. Community members and businesses along with the city and state envision Aurora as a street full of thriving businesses and shoppers – one with a vibrant, safe business center that attracts local residents to walk and bike to stores and restaurants for their weekly shopping and entertainment. To encourage this, artwork is being added along the corridor.

The 10 x 50 foot mural represents growth through sunflowers, businesses and a future RapidRide bus. Safe travel behavior is modeled by a woman on a scooter wearing a helmet waiting for a people to cross the street and the Aurora Traffic Safety Project logo in the upper right hand corner. If one looks closely they will also find familiar landmarks such as the recently restored elephant at Aurora Rents. Behind it all is the sun rising, capturing the spirit of Aurora which means “dawn.”

“My customers come in all shapes and sizes and many are working hard to improve their lives,” said Chaesun Osaka, the owner of North Park Grocery. “This mural represents how Aurora and the people who live and work here are growing and changing.”
The public is invited to come, meet the artists and fellow neighbors, learn more about the Aurora Traffic Safety Project and enjoy free coffee and light snacks.

When: Saturday, October 16
Where: 10217 Aurora Street at North Park Grocery
Time: 10 a.m.

This is the second of two murals. The first mural was a temporary installation in the windows of an empty storefront. Within three weeks of the installation being placed, the property was rented. A new location for the mural is now being sought. Zach Bohnenkamp, John Osgood and Kevin Sullivan from Bherd Studios and Matamuros were commissioned for both jobs.

Sustainable Green Lake, Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors (GAIN), Epic Life Church, the city of Seattle and Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WSTC) made this mural possible through grants and volunteer hours. This project is funded in part by a Neighborhood Matching Fund award of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods and through the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and Aurora Traffic Safety Project. The project was created to help Aurora gain a competitive edge in tough economic times by making improvements along Aurora Avenue; to attract attention to the business district; to improve public perceptions of Aurora; to encourage consumers to come to Aurora for their shopping needs; and to improve the sustainability and safety of the neighborhood by contributing to the walkability and bikability of the neighborhood business district.

8537 Greenwood Ave N, Suite 1
Bherd Studios Gallery presents the urban contemporary work of Seattle artists: Michelle Anderst, Joe Vollan and Chris Sheridan. Each artists work is themed around the inner workings of the mechanical, human anatomy and the soul.

Anderst explores the relationships between organic structure such as bones, veins & nerves to man-made structures such as circuitry and computer boards. She’s known for pairing “the insides” with old fashioned vintage wallpaper which creates an unusual feminine elegance to her compositions.

Vollan uses his signature style of surreal and macabre scenes that are inhabited by skeletal animals and robots to evoke a sense of wonderment, relevant to the fantastic and bizarre worlds he creates.

Sheridan’s work explores the essence of humanity and the soul. His work depicts scenes from myths and folklore that teach about morality, as well as delving into the insights of human nature. His strong illustrative background provides beautifully crafted imagery on oil and canvas. Artists present.

Gainsbourg: 8550 Greenwood Ave N

While taking classes in film making, he became intrigued with his current medium, still photography. He creates and captures singular frames, each describing a fully formed moment within a story ... explicit, but leaving the rest up to the viewer to decide. His body of work consists of three collections: portraits, nudes, and concept pieces. Sometimes surreal, or comical, and often dramatic, Lloyd's work is inspired by a cast of ground-breaking photographers, such as Man Ray and Helmut Newton.

Taproot Uncorked celebrates Heroic Wines and an extraordinary post-fire year

Celebratory fundraiser takes place on October 22, one year after arson

SEATTLE – September 28, 2010 – One year after the arson that severely damaged—and threatened to destroy—Taproot Theatre Company’s Greenwood playhouse, the theatre hosts Taproot Uncorked, a fundraising event celebrating its extraordinary post-fire year and looking ahead to the future. On October 22, Taproot Theatre and Greenwood’s Vineyard Wine Shop team up at The Upper Crust’s Greenwood Square for a night of pairing heroic wines and Taproot’s heroic year.

Given the challenges, and ultimately victories, of the past year, the theme of heroic wines seemed appropriate. “By heroic wines, I mean wines which are victorious in their endeavor to survive all odds,” says Vineyard Wine Shop owner Patrick Anderson. “With each passing year the vine’s roots grow deeper and deeper into the soils, and with this comes the wisdom of age and experience.”

The fire in the early hours of October 23, 2009, destroyed the Eleanor Roosevelt Building—which Taproot leased to four businesses—and resulted in such extensive smoke and water damage to the theatre that Taproot was forced to shut its doors for three months and relocate performances. Having weathered multiple recessions in its nearly 35 years, Taproot’s leadership had learned to persevere through the ups and downs of time, but a fire was something no one ever thought would happen.

“It hit as a shock, but throughout that morning I just kept thinking, ‘We have to get through this. We have audiences to serve, a neighborhood we’re committed to,” said Taproot’s co-founder and producing artistic director, Scott Nolte. “The way the Greater Seattle arts community, the Greenwood-Phinney neighborhood, and so many other friends rallied around us gave me hope that we would get through this and come out even stronger than before.”

Taproot Theatre officially reopened its doors on January 29, 2010, for opening night of The Great Divorce, C.S. Lewis’ allegory adapted by George Drance and New York’s Magis Theatre. The production played to sold-out houses and broke all attendance records in the theatre’s nearly-35-year history. In addition, the 2010 season went on to bring in Taproot’s highest number of subscribers ever.

The evening’s festivities run from 6 to 8 p.m. and include tasting and learning about heroic wines with wine expert Patrick Anderson, hearty hors d’oeuvres from The Upper Crust, plus time to visit with some of Taproot’s most deeply rooted artists who will be pouring the wines. Taproot Uncorked takes place at The Upper Crust Catering’s Greenwood Square, located at 8420 Greenwood Avenue North. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Tickets cost $45 and are available online at www.taprootuncorked.com.

Taproot Uncorked is made possible through generous partnerships with The Vineyard Wine Shop and The Upper Crust Catering.

“You’re So Vain” (you probably think this art is about you). Seattle artists Kate Protage and Chris Sheridan team up to curate their 2nd show at Bherd Studios Gallery in September. “You’re So Vain” looks at more than 10 different artists’ interpretations of portraiture in the modern art world, and how their technical, stylistic and symbolic choices reflect the “truths” of their subjects. Includes the art of: Daniel Carrillo, Jonathan Collis, Chris Crites, Troy Gua, Lucien Knuteson, Wyatt Landis, Mary McIntyre, John Osgood, Brian Thies, Joey Veltkamp, Redd Walitzki, Daniel John Williams.

Protage and Sheridan have chosen to display a wide range of styles and genres in “You’re So Vain,” with work ranging from urban contemporary to pop surrealism to classical, and everything in between. Artists address a variety of different thematic concepts behind modern portraiture—humor, vanity, morality, spirituality and social commentary to name a few—and reveal the fact that portraiture is not bound to a single, tightly defined space in contemporary art. It is everywhere, and can mean many things.

Tasty: 7513 Greenwood Ave N
“Dreams & Visions” Tasty is thrilled to be showing new works by artists Don DeLeva and Dara Harvey. Don works in an intuitive style using “free flowing ideas that crystallize over time into image”. He starts by painting a texture into the primer and adds lines or shapes that he’s visualized in his head. Reading between the abstract lines, he brings out imagery using elements of traditional painting. He says “paintings can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months to complete. In some cases, I paint over works that I have finished. If it’s in my studio, it’s fair game!”

In her own words, Dara’s art is “largely a process of inspired scribbling, deliberate interpretations of bizarre mark making and intuition of form to create deconstructed characters that are then stitched back together, often in ambiguous or fanciful environments.” She takes pride in transforming and reinventing her own art, exploring creative options and not limiting herself to one kind of media. Artists Present.
